Happyness is led by front man Steve Sharpe. Steve has been studying the Music, Arts and Culture of West Africa for many years, and has been teaching African drumming, as well as group percussion, in the Highlands, since 1999. He has facilitated Drum Circles in Scotland, England and the USA, and is well respected within the international Drum Circle community.

He is a student of Master Drummer Mamady Keita, former director of the Ballet Djoliba National ballet of Guinea.

He is a graduate of Village Music Circles Drum Circle Facilitators Playshop 2002 & 2003. He has studied with Arthur Hall, group facilitator and keynote speaker from the USA, as well as other teachers from the USA, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, The Gambia and Zimbabwe.

He currently leads the F.A.L.C.O.N. Project Drum Group, Inverness Community Percussion Group, and teaches and facilitates for a wide range of organisations, corporations and schools.

Steve's mission is to celebrate life, and by doing so, encourage others to do the same.

To provide the best quality rhythm based events, in which there exists opportunities for participants to express themselves creatively and be supported, by the group, in their expression.

Vision:

To nurture the growth of strong and positive communities, in which the agreement for the expression and sharing of creative potential serves as a powerful agent in having individuals feel good about themselves and their lives.

  • Musical creativity and self expression is an important part of the development of both individual and community well being.

Achievements

Since 2002 Happyness Drum Circle has drummed, danced sang and played with over 50,000 people at over 1000 events incorporating a total of over 2000 sessions.

Previous clients include Highland council, FALCON Project, Arts Play Highland, Highland Childrens Forum, Scottish Youth Pariament, Scottish Society for Autism and a huge range of schools, nurseries and youth groups throughout Scotland. Corporate and adult groups have included B.P, Chevron Texaco, Talisman Energy, HBOS and Royal Bank of Scotland.
